5 One-Minute Steps To Less Stress

By Janice Masters

No matter how good your life is, less stress and more joy will improve it!

Sometimes we get caught up in thinking that we'll have to spend a bunch of time to let go of some stress and find a bit more joy. Not so!! I've got five one-minute tips for you to do just that, lickety-split.

Here they are:

1. One-Minute Yoga. Take a breath; do a head roll; shoulder shrug; shake arms/hands and let them hang; repeat all. Then imagine yourself under a waterfall and all tension, all worries, all anxieties are being washed away.

2. One-Minute Smile. Hold a very broad, teeth-showing smile for one full minute. The facial muscles holding the smile will give the brain the message to release 'happy, feel good' bio-chemicals. You'll be smiling and happier when you release this smile.

3. One-Minute Thought Pivot. When thinking a thought that creates negative emotion in you, acknowledge that you are thinking about something you don't want. Then ask yourself 'what DO I want?' Shift your thought to that and watch positive emotion follow the thought.

4. One-Minute Thank You Note. Write a two or three sentence thank you note to someone for something they gave you, did for you, or for who they are to you. Email or send it and breath in the appreciation you feel.

5. One-Minute Hug Yourself. Wrap your arms around yourself. Hug yourself warmly and lovingly as you would a beloved child or friend. Rock a little, forward and backward, side to side. Breathe it in. Put one hand on your heart and feel it beating. Tighten your arm around yourself as you would do with someone you LOVE hugging. Let go and breathe.

All of these are easy to do, take almost no time and will pay off big dividends. They have all been shown to truly reduce stress, some lower blood pressure, some raise endorphins, and all of them increase relaxation and good vibrations. They even support you in your spiritual journey of awakening. Make it a habit to do these daily.

You may want to create a cue for yourself to remind you to do them until they do really become a habit. Maybe when you get into your car. Or when you look at your watch. You get the idea. Make the commitment to take these minutes for yourself and your life will improve instantly!

These steps, together with expert spiritually-oriented coaching with me will move you forward into more success and joy! You can count on that.
