Do you know what a rain forest is? The name should give you a clue. A rain forest is a forest that gets a lot of rain! In rain forests, summer seems to be the only season. Leaves do not change colors in the fall. Snow does not cover the ground in the winter. If we lived in rain forests, we could wear T-shirts and shorts almost every day. But because it rains so much there, we would use our umbrellas a lot.
Many animals like to live in hot and humid places. Rain forests are Perfect for them! There we can find some odd animals. The poison dart frog is tiny but deadly. It is one of the world's most toxic animals! It wears bright colors to warn its enemies not to touch it. People who live in rain forests are not afraid of poison dart frogs. They put poison dart frogs' poison on the tips of their darts (arrows). Once the tips are dried, they can be used for hunting. Other famous rain forest animals include anacondas, sloths, and parrots. Anacondas are the world's heaviest snakes. They like to hide in or near the water. They eat animals that come near them. Sloths are very lazy. They like to hang upside down in trees. When they travel, they are just a little bit faster than snails. Parrots may be the world's smartest birds. They live in treetops. They can learn to ride small bikes, solve puzzles, and even talk to us!
